This post that I am
going to write is not a travel trip. It is going to be strictly for those who
are going to come Chennai for a living and plotted according to my experiences.
Chennai is the
city which has fascinated me with its
travel mode all around to
important places. Train route is possible for the major places. While one can go
to important places in AC metro buses and good deluxe buses, there is a bus
always from anywhere to anywhere. The only thing that irritates me is the negligible buses after 10 in the night.
Yes, Chennai doesn’t
have a night life. It halts mostly after 10 in the night. But I am having a
good weekends (day time I mean) with malls,
beaches, temples, cricket and sleep in home. Though it is sultry in the days with high humidity
you can get coconuts all around to
quench the thirst and beat the heat (at nominal prices).
Autos are the
nightmare (as it can be in any city). It is quite tough to bargain with
them. They normally mocked me when I
bargained. I know the distance and made a stern argument in that broken Tamil
(I am a Telugu by language) and if not I will be looted in broad day light.
I have travelled to T-nagar
and triplicane at the rush hours for shopping. While shopping
can be the best and cheapest at these places, the rush will
make you feel as if you are in some grinder. Everything is available here at
very nominal prices. From shirts to shampoo, cosmetics to culinary,
gold-items to gold-imitation, everything is available. Coconut at this place
cost me ₹20 while at any place in Chennai is ₹40.
Kanchipuram, a devotional Hindu place for the worship a
powerful goddess is very near and it takes only ₹30 fare (a distance of
100 km). So when it has to be somewhere out, this is the best in budget. Of course
Pondicherry (a place famous for cheaper booze and many other things) is close I
preferred Kanchipuram with my parents. You can also visit Mahabalipuram where
is next best place to go out on weekends. The link takes you why and what
it is famous about.
My overall experience in Chennai was good and there was
nothing disappointing to me. I wouldn’t say that Chennai was cheap but good
that it is not costly. There was nothing complex to me. So smooth sailing so
far. Waiting for more experiences…
